Sand Paper Printed T-Shirt

This is sooooo cool!

So I ran across this on Pinterest (totally and utterly addicted)

All you need is:

Sand Paper (fine is best) I got mine at Dollar Tree

T-Shirt

Color Crayons

Iron

Cardboard

Paper Towels

I found this boys X-Small Long Sleeved Shirt at the Dollar Store.

Along with the Sandpaper.

I wrote Jackson's name on the Sand Paper with Crayons.

You have to go over it several times and get the crayon on their nice and thick.

And then I realized...Oh wait, it's going to be backwards on the shirt...Ack!

So then I had to re-write his name but backwards..

and I got so caught up in writing backwards that I forgot to switch out color crayons for different colors.

UGH..Oh well :)  

Next I put some cardboard inside the shirt so the crayon wouldn't leak through to the back of the shirt.

I placed the Sand Paper upside down on the front of the shirt and placed two paper towels on top of the Sand Paper.

I ironed for about 30 seconds

I removed the Sand Paper, put the paper towels down on the image and ironed for just a few seconds to get any extra wax off the shirt.

Then you place it in the dryer for approx 20 minutes to set the color.

It is recommended to wash this shirt by itself the first time.

and I got this...Clearly I need to color on the sand paper a little more to get the image darker..however I do think this is a blast! It was super easy, quick and I am going to go try it again :)

I think I'll let my kids do the art work next time though :)

Once they do it, I'll post some pics.

On a totally unrelated topic..My oldest son started Middle School today..yeah Middle School.

I was up half the night due to nerves..I just can't believe my baby is so old..Check out this pic..

I tried getting a picture by the front of the school...yeah no dice..he wasn't having it lol :)

Apparently that is really embarrassing...

T-Shirt Scarf #2

Upcycled T-Shirt Scarf

So here is another way to make a beautiful Scarf out of an old T-Shirt :)

In this case I used one of my oldest son's old T-Shirts...The bigger the T-Shirt the longer the scarf.

My son is 11yrs old, so the shirt wasn't that big, but it still makes a long scarf and I was able to double it up.

So let's get started eh....

First you lay the T-Shirt down flat, and then you cut off the hem at the bottom. 

Next you cut thin strips (not too thin, about 1/2"-1") all the way across the T-Shirt to make big loops.

Next, stretch out each hoop and then wrap it around your hand to form small circles like above.

You can make them as big or small as you like.

With the remaining T-Shirt scraps, cut strips about 2-3" long..this material stretches remember.

Next lay your hoops side by side and tie them together with your strip of T-Shirt.

And this is what you get...You can either leave it open at the end..or tie it together like I did to make one big loop. Now you need to trim off the excess T-Shirt from the knots you tied with the strips of fabric.

Isn't that adorable?! SO easy and fun :) I love it!

Next time I will try it with a bigger shirt so I can make it longer, but I will definitely sport this one.

T-Shirt Scarf

DIY T-Shirt Scarf

This has GOT to be the easiest T-Shirt scarf around..seriously!

I have two other T-Shirt Scarf's I will be doing soon as well..stay tuned.

But for this one this is what you do:

I got this Ladies Large Cotton T-Shirt from the Dollar Tree.

I picked black cause I love it, but then I realized it's hard to do a tutorial with a black shirt, sorry guys.

Lay it flat on a table.  Then cut a straight line right under the arm pit all the way across to the other armpit.

Now you have two pieces.

Toss the top half of the shirt aside for a future project, you only need the bottom half for the scarf.

Cut the hem off the bottom of the shirt.

Cut 1/2" strips (fringe) on the bottom of the shirt about half way up, or just shy of half way up the shirt.

Pull each piece of fringe so the shirt fringe curls up.  

Unfortunately I think my shirt had some spandex in it or something cause my fringe didn't curl up right, but I still like it as is :)

Now put it over your head and Voila! You have a beautiful new accessory :)

I love this, and it's so comfy...I will definitely make another one with a 100% cotton shirt, so I get the effect I want with the fringe.

This is great as casual wear, or dressy wear.  Also great for all ages.  Would make a fantastic homemade gift for someone. 

This would also look great with a T-Shirt that has a pattern in it, or Tie Dye.

Upcycled Kids Cape

Look at my handsome little Super Hero!

All I used for this project was a T-Shirt and a pair of scissors..that's it!

Here are the steps I took, and keep in mind this only took a couple of minutes..so EASY!

Ok first I laid the T-Shirt down flat on a table

I then cut both sleeves off the shirt

Then I cut up the side of the shirt on both sides

Last I cut the rest of the front of the shirt off, leaving a couple inches below the neck line.

This picture is all business...he is a Superhero after all :)  but in this pic you can see how much I left under the neckline in the front.  This way he can just pull it on and off his head with ease.

BAM..BANG..BOOM..I can fly!

I'd say this little Superhero LOVES his new cape!

I couldn't be happier with the results, it's totally awesome!

Clearly he's having a great time, cause I can't get him to hold still for a good pic lol :)  Always a good sign!

And..he's off to rescue a princess.....

You could take this a step further and add some lightening bolts on the back with Duct Tape like this...

Upcycled Sinus Pillow

Upcycled Lavender Sinus Pillow

Tis' the season for allergies & sinus infections!

My husband & oldest son suffer the worst in our house....SO...

I made a Sinus Pillow out of T-shirt scraps from a previous project and various other supplies I had around the house.  FREE...is a very good price :)

Supplies I used:

Sleeve of a T-shirt

Needle and Embroidery Thread

White Rice

Dried Lavender

Lavender Essential Oil

Scissors

So I cut off the arm of the T-shirt scrap I had left.  Two sides were already sewn so I turned it inside out and sewed one side shut, and then the other side I sewed 3/4 shut so I could add the rice mixture.

I turned it right side out (is that how you say it lol?) and mixed 1 cup of uncooked white rice, some left over dried lavender from my sisters wedding, and two drops of Lavender Essential oil in a bowl.  I then used a funnel to pour the rice mixture into the pouch.

I sewed it up and popped it in the microwave for 20 sec....Oh the smell was heavenly!

Next step..the true test..see how the boy like's it.  I had him put it on his eyes and he gave it two thumbs up..even better, he had a friend over, he tried it too and said "that feels awesome!"

Kid tested...Mother approved

I give this project two thumbs up!  It was easy, free, and works great!

Remember that Recycled T-shirt Tote I made last week? Well I added some embellishments with left over T-shirt scraps.  Here's a pic...

I made Rosettes from the scrap T-shirt pieces, and made them into a flower...So cute!

No Sew T-Shirt Tote Bag

I am going to show you a very simple way to create your own tote bag by recycling an old t-shirt, or by using a new one (Dollar Tree has plain colored t-shirts too)

You will need:

One T-Shirt

Scissors

Pen

Big Bowl or Plate

Here are the steps:

Place bowl/plate on the top portion of the t-shirt, around the collar.  Trace with a pen. You want to leave enough space between the bowl and the sleeve, that will be your handle.

Then cut out along the line you just traced. 

Next step is to cut off sleeves.  Toss the sleeves and collar, you don't need them.  

Or save them for a future project :)

Almost done folks!  Easy peasy huh?  Ok..Next step is to cut strips along the bottom of the t-shirt. 

Your strips should be about 3 inches long and about 3/4 wide (give or take).

Oh so pretty!!  Look at that lovely fringe...Ok on your two end pieces you need to split those up the middle so that the side is not connected like all the other little fringe pieces :)  Hope that makes sense!

Last Step!! So exciting I know!!  Start at the left side...Pick up the top piece of fringe and the bottom piece of fringe that goes with it..and tie a double knot..then move on down the row till you've reached the other end.  Tie them tight so there aren't any holes in the bottom of the bag..we don't want your lipstick falling out the bottom now do we..no sir!

Ta Da!!! Now you are finished!!  Your fancy nancy tote bag is ready for the runway..

Purse

School bag

The list goes on and on..really.  If it gets dirty just throw it in the wash, and because it's a cotton t-shirt it will never fray...YAY!

Hey I'm a poet and didn't even know it lol..ok I'll admit, that was lame :)

This is a very easy project that kids can do.  It would be a great craft for Slumber Parties, Birthday Parties, Church Groups, or just a craft to do when the kids are driving you nuts..I mean when the kids are bored!

You can decorate your Tote Bag with Puff Paint, Iron On Decals, Sharpies, by tying beads to the fringe on the bottom of bag or you can use one of the sleeves and sew it on as a pocket!
