Noodle Beads

Noodle Beads

Ok so you know I LOVE cheap and easy crafts...at least I hope at this point you do lol :)

So I made these noodle beads for my kids during the winter time..I didn't have a craft blog then, so I am showing you now.

Supplies:
Box of Noodles
Rubbing Alcohol
Food Coloring
Bowls

Now once again..I got ALL my supplies at the Dollar Store..gotta love a cost effective craft!

Sorry I don't have a pic for this anymore but this is what I did:

I set out 5 bowls, filled them up equally with noodles.
I then filled them up with Rubbing Alcohol until they were fully submerged.
I then added some drops of food coloring..the more you add the stronger the color will be.
Gave them a gentle stir and let them all sit for about 10-15 minutes.

Next step, I lined a huge cutting board with paper towels, although next time I would used a large cookie sheet instead.

Then dumped the noodles one at a time in a strainer (Do Not Rinse), and laid them on the paper towels.
Be careful that the noodles don't touch the color next to them on the paper towel or you will get some spotted color transfer (which isn't bad, it's actually kinda cool looking)

I let them air dry, and it didn't take long.

Now it will smell like Rubbing Alcohol pretty strongly for a few minutes, but once they are dry you will not smell the alcohol at all...promise!

The end result is nothing short of amazing bursts of color!  I love these!!!!

Aren't these fun??!!  I love the bright colors, and you can do SO many things with these.  As you can see I used two different types of noodles here.  The smaller ones don't even look like noodles!

Have fun with this one guys, I know we did!

Happy Crafting!

  4. Thank you ladies!! The best part about these that I forgot to mention, is that the alcohol sets the color in, so no staining. You could also make green and red beads during the holidays and string them on your tree...your options are endless :) Have fun creating!

  6. also, you can use small pastas (like the ditalini above, or the alphabets, or =the tiny stars) and put a LOT of them in a clear tupperware or jar, along with other small items: dice, plastic animals, a coin or two, regular beads, a large marble, a ring from a vending machine, etc. you can even use larger pasta shapes (a bowtie or two, the wheel shaped pastas, etc.) undyed. put the lid on , give it a shake, and then tell your kids, "find the giraffe, and something round!" (or similar instructions) and set a timer. it's a WAY fun game, and way cheaper than the premade "find it inside!" toys you can buy in stores. if you think ahead, you can write down everything you have put inside, and then have them try to find EVERYTHING.
